affecting North Las Vegas. Here are the answers to the questions. Source

The city needs to continue
with the current hiring
slowdown to ensure that
there will be no lay-offs and
also ensure we keep a high
level of service to the
community. We need to be
mindful not to scale back
the downtown
redevelopment and
continue since this, over
time, will be a major source
of revenue for our city.
The city of North Las Vegas
should try and take as much
advantage of the economic
stimulus package passed by
Congress. Especially since
Ward 1 has some of the most
foreclosures and highest
unemployment rates. North
Las Vegas needs better
leadership in these financial
times with money being spent
for the greater good and
benefiting the most people. I
am very good with money and
feel that I can manage it well.
Robert Eliason did not
submit an answer to this
question.
One of the sad things about
Southern Nevada in
general is that when it
comes to history is pretty
much history already. We
need to conserve some of
our natural relics we have
since no matter how hard
we try they will never come
back. Building over these
lands will be a crime for the
next generation of citizens
that will inherit our city. The
growth we have while
eliminating these precious
resources will hurt our
image.
I think that with the economic
crisis we don't have to worry
about more housing
development. Land
preservation needs to be
worked out. There needs to
be better flood management
on North 5th Street and on
Losee Road. Every time it
rains, these areas flood. The
city of North Las Vegas
should have a better green
technology policy. Any new
government building should
have green technology. The
government buildings already
built should have at least
some green technology, like
energy efficient light bulbs.
These measures can save the
city a great amount of money
and help it cope better with
helping others.
We need to look at
preserving sensitive
land and figure out how
we can develop the rest
in a orderly manner.
To many, our city has an
added stigma of high crime.
While our brave men and
women in uniform do a
fantastic job, we can still do
better. When elected, I will
push very hard for the
mandatory implementation
of C.P.T.E.D. (Crime
Prevention Through
Environmental Design).
This program is already in
place, but only on a
voluntary basis. With this
tool, we can bring flawed
building designs that make
fighting crime harder for us
under control. Not only can
we reduce crime, but we
can also make fighting
crime easier by eliminating
easy hideaways. Buildings
should have the approval of
C.P.T.E.D. before they go
to City Council for final
approval.
I have the highest respect for
the North Las Vegas Police.
They have one of the hardest
jobs policing North Las Vegas.
Just watch an episode of
"Cops" when they are in North
Las Vegas, you can see what
they have to deal with on a
daily basis. If elected, I will try
and bridge any gaps between
citizens and the police. I will
set up neighborhood watch
programs and stage meet and
greets with the officers and
the neighborhoods of Ward 1.
I will talk to homeowner
associations and local
businesses on solutions they
might have on crime
prevention. It is up to the
citizens of North Las Vegas to
put a stop to crime and help
the police out. They can't do it
alone. It takes all of us to put
a stop to crime.
I think the Police
Department is doing the
best they can with the
current funding and
economic situation.
A lot of the foreclosure
solutions will be coming
from the federal
government. How we use
them will be up to the
council and the city
managers that present the
city with its plans. The main
promise I will make is not to
vote against a plan by
mistake without
understanding it. In the past
some in our council voted
against the plans thinking
they were voting in favor of
something else. As a
council member I will know
all the council rules and
separate items that need to
be voted on its own. After
serving two or more terms
in council, they should know
the rules and use them
wisely.
There are at least, that I know
of, five foreclosed homes on
my street. I, along with many
other people, owe more on my
home than what it is worth. If
elected, I will get all of the
banks and mortgage
companies together and come
up with a solution. Have a
plan of bundling these houses
together, opening up credit,
and either auctioning them off
or somehow selling them to
homeowners. Some of these
houses on my street have
been empty for a long time
and something needs to be
done now. Preventing
foreclosure, people need to
be able to get information
from the city and these
financial institutions on how to
prevent them from losing their
homes.
There is a lot of
programs to look at and
refine. This is a nation
wide crisis that is going
to take all levels of local
and national
government to work
through.
I will work on developing
relationships with the rest of
council. I will also work on
developing deep roots with
the community as a whole. I
will host town halls with the
residents between Lake
Mead Boulevard and
Owens and Pecos and Civic
Center to discuss slowing
their traffic down and avoid
a tragedy. The residents of
Ward 1 will have a council
person dedicated to fixing
their problems hands on.
The first thing that I will do is
get Losee Road fixed. It has
been under construction for a
very long time. It is a straight
road. If it had curves in it, I
would understand, but it is a
straight road. Also, getting rid
of those "temporary traffic
lights" and installing
permanent ones. I would
come up with ways of
increasing property values.
Preventing local casinos from
being built in your backyard.
Court businesses to locate to
North Las Vegas that will
provide jobs and an economic
future. Talk to other
government leaders on how to
get the most benefits from the
huge economic stimulus
package. Work with the North
Las Vegas Police and with
neighborhoods on crime
prevention. I will set up a
green energy policy that will
save the city money. I will
have a policy on fixing the
foreclosure problem. I will
listen to the people of North
Las Vegas and hear their
problems and solutions. I very
much like problem solving. I
have great leadership skills. If
elected, I will make North Las
Vegas a better place to work,
raise children, and overall a
better place to live.
We need to take a strong
hard look at the budget
and salaries without
hurting the current level
of services.
